U-OV proudly provides bus and train services in the Utrecht region. With more than 1.100 employees, 300 buses and 26 trams, we’ll make sure you will safely reach your destination in the Utrecht region: Utrecht City, Bunnik, De Bilt, Houten, IJsselstein, Nieuwegein, Stichtse Vecht, Vianen and Zeist.
Our buses and trams are easy to recognise, thanks to the attractive yellow colour. Explore the Utrecht region at your leisure! The city of Utrecht has lots to offer with its many museums, beautiful canals, charming shops and of course the famous Dom Tower. In the surrounding municipalities you can tour old town centres and visit surprising museums or explore the stunning nature up close by taking a walk in one of the many nature parks. How to pay for your trip
The U-OV day ticket
If you wish to travel for one day or several days to various places in the municipality of Utrecht, including Leidsche Rijn and Haarzuilens, the U-OV Day ticket (Dagkaart) Utrecht is the ideal ticket for you. The U-OV Day ticket can be purchased at the OV Service Store conveniently located in the main hall of Utrecht Central Station (trains).

The U-OV Travel ticket
You can buy the U-OV Travel ticket (Reiskaart) on the bus or at the ticket vending machines at the bus station of Utrecht CS. The U-OV Travel ticket is only valid at U-OV operated buses or trams in the Utrecht region. The validity of the ticket starts immediately when you buy the ticket from the bus driver or at the ticket vending machine. Depending on the travelling distance, tickets cost € 2.80, € 4.40 or € 6.40. Our drivers or staff at the U-OV Service Stores will gladly advise you.
The U-OV Travel ticket as a return ticket
You can use the U-OV Travel ticket as a return ticket on all the U-OV bus and tram services on Thursday evening (after 18.00 hours), Friday evening (after 18.00 hours), Saturday and Sunday on the same day.
OV-chip card (OV-chipkaart)
The OV-chip card is a public transport card which is accepted by all operators in the Utrecht region. You can buy an anonymous OV-chip card for € 7.50 at the ticket vending machines at Utrecht CS or at our U-OV Service Stores in the main hall of Utrecht CS. Please ensure you have enough credit on your OV-chip card before you travel. You must always check-in and check-out on the bus and on the tram platform using the OV-chip card. When you check-in, you pay a starting rate of € 0.89, then you pay € 0.132 for each kilometre you travel. If you transfer during your trip, the kilometres are simply added on.
Children under 4 travel for free
Children up to the age of 4 can travel for free on U-OV buses and trams.
There are ticket vending machines at the bus stations of Utrecht CS Jaarbeurszijde (Jaarbeurs exit), on the tram platform Jaarbeursplein and directly outside our OV-Service Stores that sell U-OV-Travel tickets and anonymous OV-chip cards (debit cards or cash only). You can also add credit to your OV-chip card at the ticket vending machines.

We simplified travel information by using recognisable colour and destination symbols. Finding your travel destination was never this simple. The Utrecht region is sub-divided into 8 areas, each has its own colour and distinctive symbol. You will find these symbols in all our travel information; at the bus and tram information board in the main hall of Utrecht CS, signposts at the platforms and at the journey planner on our website. The colours and distinctive symbols instantly show you the bus or trams destination.

Explore the Utrecht region
Below is a brief outline of the municipalities in the Utrecht region, with information on how these municipalities can be reached by public transport from Utrecht CS railway station.
An ideal starting point for walks or cycle trips exploring beautiful nature parks. You can reach De Bilt with bus line 77, departing from Utrecht CS. You can also visit Bilthoven by train. For more information: www.bezoek-utrecht.nl.
The history of Bunnik dates back almost 2000 years when Romans built a trading post near the river Vecht. Bunnik lies in the Krommerijnstreek, a region with rural estates, country houses and castles. You can reach Bunnik with bus lines 41 and 242, and by train. For more information: www.krommerijnstreek.nl.
Visit our very own fairytale castle De Haar at Haarzuilens. Take a guided tour and learn more about one of the Netherlands’ richest castle and tour the beautiful English gardens. An assortment of drinks and sandwiches are available at The Tuynhuys De Haar (on caste grounds) where you can also make a reservation for high tea. You can reach Castle De Haar by taking the train from Utrecht CS to Vleuten and change to bus 111, who stops at the main entrance. For more information: www.kasteeldehaar.nl.
There are various forts near Houten you can pay a visit to. Houten is also a popular location to relax at Recreatieplas Houten and enjoy the many watersport activities. Visit the old railway station for a cup of tea! You can reach Houten from Utrecht with bus line 47, and in Houten itself, bus line 49. You can also travel to Houten by train. Nieuwegein lies south of the city of Utrecht and has lots to offer for a day out. Visit the old church or the old Oudegein watermill to learn more about Nieuwegein’s history. There are lovely shops in the surrounding towns and the area hosts three merchant markets every week. You can reach Nieuwegein with bus lines 74 and 77, and by tram. This municipality is well-known for the beautiful river Vecht. Visit lovely country estates, one of the many nature parks or take a boating trip. The stately Loenersloot Castle and its surrounding gardens is certainly worth a visit. Maarssen/Maarssenbroek can be reached from Utrecht CS with bus lines 5, 37, 38 and 39. The beating heart of the Province of Utrecht is its capital! With a historic city centre, numerous museums and unique canals, Utrecht City has something to offer for everyone. There are various forts (17th century) from the Hollandse Waterlinie (Dutch Water Line) to be found on the outskirts of the city. Utrecht also has a Roman history. Visit our famous Dom Tower for an amazing view over the city and beyond. You can explore Utrecht with numerous bus and tram lines all departing from Utrecht CS. IJsselstein has a lovely historic city centre which dates back to the 14th century. Throughout the year, there are numerous cultural activities you can easily visit. During the weekend, you can take a canal ride around the Vestinggracht. Take the tram to IJsselstein and exit at the Binnenstad (city centre). For more information: www.bezoek-utrecht.nl.
A fortified town with a pittoresque centre is located on the river Lek. Vianen boasts many national monuments you can visit year round. To reach Vianen take bus 63, 65, 74 or various regional lines. For more information: www.vvvutrechtseheuvelrug.nl.
Zeist is a municipality with beautiful villages, numerous historical country houses of wealthy merchants surrounded by a beautiful landscape. Zeist is very suited for walks and cycling trips. Visit The Pyramid of Austerlitz Monument, Luna park and playground. If you have time left consider visiting Castle Zeist in the weekend and take a stroll around in the gardens.
